Services offered
The Brief Consultation Service provides families, their lawyers, and the court with timely, focussed and brief consultations regarding the wishes or concerns of children ages 11 to 16. The parents will be consulted regarding:

  • their children’s developmental issues;
  • post-separation parenting;
  • post-separation communication options;
  • counselling needs;
  • information-sharing with their children about separation, divorce and related issues;
  • scheduling issues and access options; and
  • information and screening regarding other relevant services.
Once the court refers a family, a counsellor meets with and assesses the parents' and the children’s concerns within ten working days. A report is available to the court within 25 working days.
